5 Arts Auction for Mind Over Cancer

5 Arts Auction for Mind Over Cancer

Exciting news alert! Mind Over Cancer is celebrating its fifth birthday, and to honour this milestone, we’re hosting a special 5 Arts Auction featuring some of the UK’s most exciting artists as part of our Five Years & Beyond event.

The 5 Arts Auction is a one-off collection in aid of Mind Over Cancer and curated by our charity patron, artist and music producer, Remi Rough, who is renowned for creating graffiti-inspired abstract compositions and large-scale murals.

Artwork has been generously donated by five artists and includes pieces from portrait artist, actor, screenwriter and comedian, Nick Frost, non-figurative oil painter, Erin Lawlor, typographic and abstract artist, Gary Stranger, Nicky Hirst, who transforms found objects into works of art and Remi Rough.

These pieces will be auctioned live at a special invitation-only exclusive event at Woodbury House art gallery in June but one art piece from Erin Lawlor is now available to bid via a silent auction until 5 June via The Auction Collective.

All proceeds from the auction, which is the first major fundraising event we have held since we launched, will help us expand our free mental health support to anyone who was diagnosed with cancer from birth up to the age of 29. Around 6,500 young people aged between 0 and 29 years are diagnosed with cancer every year. We provide ten free one-to-one online counselling sessions with a specially matched therapist for the patient, their family, friends and partners, as all can be negatively affected by a cancer diagnosis.

We also provide a free online Mental Health and Wellbeing Support programme through monthly support groups. In the five years the charity has been operating, we have provided over 2,500 hours of mental wellbeing sessions and supported over 400 people.

Susie Shaw, Founder and Chief Executive of Mind Over Cancer, said: “Reaching five years old is no mean feat for a small charity. During these five years we’ve had a pandemic and a cost-of-living crisis but somehow, we’ve managed to keep going. We’re incredibly proud and lucky to hold this special event and have these amazing artists supporting us. Art can be a powerful way to express feelings and is used as a form of therapy, so it feels very serendipitous to have this fundraiser for us.”

Artist Remi Rough comments: “It’s been a privilege to bring together this brilliant group of artists in aid of such a worthy cause. Art touches all our lives just like cancer does and it’s wonderful to turn what can be something so challenging and traumatic into something so positive.”

To bid for Erin Lawlor’s artwork bid via The Auction Collective. Bids close at 4pm on 5 June and the successful bid will be contacted by The Auction Collective and Mind Over Cancer on 8 June. All proceeds will be donated to the charity. If interested in bidding on the artwork that features in the live auction event at Woodbury House, please email contactus@mindovercancer.org.uk
